Why am I posting a review John Chow dot Com? Simple. In yet another effort to get more exposure for Lost Ball I am joining yet another scheme to drive traffic to my site. This one is Review My Blog, a clever method for sharing links between blogs originated by John Chow, Dot Com Mogul.
John Chow dot Com is a personal blog. This means that Mr. Chow simply blogs about whatever he feels like. To me his blog is scattered and basically all over the place. He says the blog is essentially about making money on the Internet. I wouldn’t really say that I agree with that. One day you might find a piece written about network cables and the next day you might find something written about fine dining. I’m not sure I care for this approach as I am not that nosy to want to know what someone thinks about random stuff. But I am clearly in the minority.
He shared with his readers the progression of how much money his blog is making and it is truly astounding. He stated that he was never in it to make money. But his progression from September 2006 to November 2007 has seen his monthly income increase from around $350 to over $7K. That is rocking.
I may not care for this blogging approach but it clearly works. I suppose if you are able to write compelling stories about stuff you like then people are going to show up to read it. Which of course leads to generating money. Since I’ve been living in the world of gurus who preach building niches to the promise land of riches, I never considered that a blog such as John Chow dot Com would work. I may not like to visit these type of blogs but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t want to write one myself. John Chow dot Com gives me the motivation and example that writing about whatver it is you like can be monetarily satisfying as creating a confusing SEO blog mess with PLR articles.
I think one thing you can learn from his blog is how he gets the readers involved. He has contests. He rewards his top commentators. He builds a community that interacts with the blog. I think that is the major reason for his success. Plus he really speaks to the community. He’s not detached like many blog writers.
John Chow dot Com is a great example of someone creating a site that they wanted to build. I bet he didn’t build his blog with keywords, themes, niches, mininets, etc. in mind. He just started writing about stuff he liked. This is a blog model that we can all work with.

Hi
I like your blog…I was looking for information on Niche Marketing on Crack when I found you .
I’m glad I did because as a bumarketer I suspected it was the same old same old…you confirmed my suspitions. Thanks
I’ll certainly be back and might have something useful for you..Oh the one really starightforward no-nonsense hardhitting e-book I have read lately which is aimed at listbuilding, is The Deadliest Affiliate Weapon.
Lauri Niskasaari , a Finn, has written it and it sells for $7. I highly recommend it and his “guruscam” newsletter. He’ll tell you exactly what to do and if you look closely it’s exactly what he does…there you are amini-off the cuff review!
For others I have put together a free book at the site…it is not aimed at marketers per se but I think you will find all the stuff we bummarketers do all in one place.
Ok thanks again
Ed
