Over at make money online with Griz, Griz has a post where he discusses Google’s handling of duplicate content. You should have a read as it’s pretty informative. My experience recently with it is much the same as Griz’s experience. Not to steal his thunder but I believe Google’s blather about controlling dupe content is bullshit. Actually Griz thought it was horseshit so I guess we do have a difference of opinion.
As you know, and are probably sick of hearing, I have been using Wordpress.com blogs. Anyway, what I am finding is that I can write a post on WP.com and let’s say I rank #1 for the keyword phrase. Well it’s not uncommon for me to rank, say, #2 for the tag of the keyword phrase. On the WP.com tag page I’ll have the featured listing. Now I’m finding my shit is getting scraped by some d-bag and it is getting ranked like #3 (it’s not horrible as he at least links back to my site).
So the point is there are three separate listings. All for the same content. But all listed 1, 2 and 3. I can’t tell you how many times this has been occurring in Google recently.
I’m not certain that it is a blatant case of duplicate content but if you click on each of those links you will find my one original post. Duplicate content penalty indeed. If Google was on their game they would reward just one instance I would think and not all three. But damn if I won’t take them all.

Oh, duplicate content, WHATEVER. When I write an article for ezinearticles it is very common for me to see that article two or three times on page one of Google - once from ezine’s website, and then at least once more from whatever splog or newsletter or ezine picked up the article.
