I’m sick of the constant overuse of the postscript. The hell is up with guberus and their insistence of giving the readers of their sales letters 3 extra postscripts? Is 17 pages of testimonials, bonuses, and money-making BS not enough? If they have to give me a p.s. to remind me of how great their offer is then perhaps the sale copy was too damn long!?
And I can almost forgive the single p.s. I mean maybe they forgot to include something in their sales letter and couldn’t go back to add it in. I mean when you write something down with an ink pen it would look tacky to go back and simply add it…oh, wait, they write with a text editor. On a computer. Could they not simply cut and paste? Put the addition where they wanted it?
Seems to me the p.s. is a bit old fashioned on a computer. The first couple of uses by salesmen were probably kind of cute. Now after it’s 17,429th use, it’s just stupid.
p.s. I’m serious.
p.s.s. No, really. I mean it.

Splork. Long time.
The P.S. is put there for one reason:
It works.
Copywriting and marketing, whether it’s on paper, spoken, on the Net, etc. is the same. And, if it works you don’t change it… right?
The same reason why after 20 years we still hear, “Call TOLL-FREE, 1-800…” We all know it’s a toll-free call. But, it pulls better.
Why do copywriters put “quotes” around headlines? Because it pulls better.
Why do infomercials say, “Call now, in the NEXT TEN MINUTES, and you’ll receive this free bonus of…”? Because it… well, you get the idea.
Postscripts work. They really do. So we use them.

P.S. — Keyword X-Ray: The BEST thing I ever bought about Internet Marketing.
P.P.S. — Undercover Profits: One of the WORST investments. I even asked for a refund.
P.P.P.S. — Adwords BlackBook DVD’s: Excellent, wonderful. Helping me make money!
(So much money spent, so much to read. But… I am gaining momentum.)

Sure it works. I guess. I don’t know how you would quantify that it did or didn’t unless you put a special code in the 20 URLs left in most postscripts. And even then maybe it’s just the last link posted is the one clicked.

Maybe? You know as well as I do that they forget nothing when it comes to selling.
