A few of you may have read my “Effed by Yahoo” post. Tragically my Blogspot hosted Blogger blogs were blorked (yes I know that sounded stupid, but I was on a roll). Anyway, I knew that I had found a couple of keyword phrases that were pretty damn good. Top 10 rankings resulting in affiliate sales. Tough to let go, yo. So I decided to take those same keyword phrases and build Squidoo lenses. The results have been interesting.
I secured a single lens based on one of the keyword phrases early last week. I built the lens over the weekend. I built 5 quick modules like Squidoo requires. Added affiliate links. Content. The minimum to simply get the thing published.
Well, I checked the stats today and the lens went from ranking 256,000 to around 8,000. So I checked why this would occur. Yahoo. I did a search in Yahoo for my exact keyword phrase and I’m ranked #7. A three word variation of the keyword phrase and I’m ranked #1. Even better than when I had the blog hosted at Blogspot. And what’s even funny, it’s not even completed yet. This is what you see today in the search results:

I should have written a $47 ebook on the experience. But you know, I’m a giver.

Sometimes it’s really tough understanding the SE.
I had a login page to one of my blogs that I accidentally pinged with one of the ping services. Google indexed it within like 4 hours after the ping.
There’s another page on one of my blogs that I really desperately want in the index. I’ve pinged it a few times over the past several days, and it’s still not indexed.
Drives me to drinking my bath water.

Update: As of this evening I’m #1 for both the targeted keywords in Yahoo. In one lens. And they spidered it again as the construction description is gone.

Update: I got 187 visitors to my lens in the last 24 hours just from Yahoo. The lens is now ranked below 1,000 in Squidoo because of all the traffic. I’ve been targeting mainly two and three keyword phrases. I am ranked #23 out of 117,000,000 for the one main keyword out of the phrases. This is all within a week. The best thing Yahoo could have done for me was to shitcan my Blogspot blogs. I never would have tried out Squidoo in its place. I’m gonna ride it until they dump Squidoo out of the results as well. Yeeha

Hey Splork,
Can you let us know if all the Squidoo traffic results in an increase in sales? I haven’t had too much experience with Squidoo but the spike in traffic I got the couple of times I used it didn’t result in anything.

The lens is ranked in the top 300 of all lenses now. I’m now averaging 500 visitors a day to it. It is ranked #1 for five of my main keyword phrases in Yahoo. And in the top 20 for the one main word keyword. I doubt it will last but I’m going to ride it for as long as I can. The visitors to the lens bounce out via the affiliate links and have contributed to a couple of sales. I have taken two of the keyword phrases that are being found #1 in Yahoo and made lenses with those as well. They haven’t been indexed by Yahoo yet but I just built them yesterday. We’ll see how they go too.
I wish Google would come calling now.
