I’ve gotten a few emails and such about when I am going to write some more. Seems like this site has hit a bit of nerve with some people. I appreciate folks reading.
The vast majority of us who are trying to stake our claim to internet riches are struggling. We buy all the swag the guberus can pump out. We join all the membership sites we get pitched. We read the latest ebook to making money using this technique.
I don’t know about you guys but it seems the only ones making money are the guberus (and yet you continue to read even when I state the obvious). Everyone got pitched the deal for those Adsense videos, right? I did. Every day. So one of the gurus sends out an email that if you buy the videos from him, then he’ll give you a sweet bonus in the form of one of his ebooks.
So now I get an email from the dude selling the videos pimping the other guru’s ebooks and services now. WTF?
Seriously great marketing here. Friends helping friends out. But their cred just joined me in the weeds. It just smacks of a couple of dudes sharing their opt-in list to get more people to buy all their swag. Is that wrong? Nope it’s not. Pretty smart actually. But so help me I am not going to participate in their obvious money grab into my pockets.
I can just hear their conversation:
G1: I’m going to make some Adsense videos. I’ll market them like they’ll be the hottest thing going. I’ll take information that Google already provides and that has been discussed ad nauseum on the forums.
G2: Don’t forget to price them at $67 for a week them raise the price to $97. It’s the only price people know and understand. And we all know that our market is stupid enough, I mean savy enough to know a great deal, to buy into that time sensitive issue, ha ha. It’s when I make 70% of my sales.
G1: Right . Anyway. We know our market likes collecting info even though they would never put it into practice on their sites. I mean if they actually paid attention to the free forums, asked questions, tested and kept building I wouldn’t have a market. They’ll think this is new info and the road to riches, ha ha!
G2: And you know what? I’ll pimp your videos, for a nice commission and possible bonus of course, to my 17,000 sucker list, I mean opt-in list, and give the buyers one of my ebooks that hasn’t sold well.
G1: Word
G2: Then once the word is out that your videos are derivative, I mean the sales start slowing, you pimp my services and products in a package deal to your opt-in list.
G1: Bonus and commission, of course.
G2: Word
And there you have the making of a very nice joint venture, JV for you people in the know. This arrangement is totally lucrative for the guberus. Can’t blame them for it a bit. But I am not playing anymore. They’ll have to dive into someone else’s pocket.
Hopefully not yours.

Ouch - I feel your pain!
But this is such a well-written blog - you’ve got a real voice, which ought to be putting you ahead of most of the guberus…
Is IM really what you want to be writing about? Or is there another, more positive passion in your life?
Hope you keep posting here, though - I’ve not read another site like it…:-)

Aran, thanks for reading and the nice words.
I have a couple of ideas of things that I would like to write about but I find IM to be such fertile grounds for sarcasm and observation right now. I think many people struggle mightily with this business and don’t have many places to turn to and say, “well, I’m not the only one having trouble making this work”.
I don’t expect to struggle forever. Certainly not for the sake of this blog’s namesake. But I’ll continue to observe and note my mistakes and hopefully in the course of writing, help people find their own success in some small way.

Fair call - a voice like yours is definitely a worthwhile addition, and I hope this blog gains the readership it deserves. You’re clearly right about the grounds for sarcasm!
How about linking to some of your other projects here? It would be interesting to see what you’re working on, if you were comfortable with that.
And with the over-riding tone of the blog, you could hardly be accused of self-promotion!

I’ve thought about showing what I’m doing on some of my other websites. It’s probably a good idea as I really have nothing to lose. I’d like to have the time to put up like a case study or something. Detail every step of the way of my success or failure. Maybe someone would find interest in that.
I don’t think that I am a complete loser. I mean, there are some things that I’ve done that seem to work OK. I just haven’t found myself the great success of three figure days or 5 figure months. I’ll keep working at it and see what happnes. Time is the greatest problem I have right now. Just keeping up with this blog gets difficult.
