I received a comment from my good friend TranceMaker who makes an interesting observation about just what the hell I am doing in this business. He notices that it appears that I am all over the place and just can’t get it together. TranceMaker wants to see me succeed, which I appreciate, and offers up valuable suggestions of things that he is doing and the success he is seeing in his business. He’s really doing well. He suggests, rightfully so, that I get a plan and stick to it.
I felt like I should respond to this in a post. More just to show that I have various competencies.
TranceMaker is right. A plan is necessary. And I have one. So here it is. My basic plan is blogs. I use PLRPro almost exclusively for the mechanics of building a site. They have THE plan as far as I’m concerned. I write and re-write tons of articles for directories and my blog. I don’t like it, but I do it. And frankly I’m good and quick about it.
Traffic is generated by further research into the topic by deeper keyword research, which instead of WordTracker, I’ve decided I like nichebot better. I’d prefer not to compete with millions of other sites for various search terms so I seek the best possible keyword phrases to write my articles with. I use RSS2B to populate my blogs over time when I get more than 30 articles written.
Additionally, I use blogs to build affiliate sites using Teli’s datafeed script. I probably make just as many sales per affiliate blog as someone else might pimping CrapBank ebooks over any given month. My Adsense, Chitika and Kontera income is respectable across my stable of blogs.
These are my core businesses, as it were.
I dabble in building small affiliate sites ala Affilorama. I use XSP to build those small sites, and again, use articles in directories to drive traffic to those sites. Relatively effective and just your basic Bum Marketing really, which I like as well. I prefer blogging though.
I am studying and trying to ramp up better site building skills using The Master Plan. I think there is a lot to siloing and how I implement that is to build the best blog I can and see what the interest is. If it seems successful it is a candidate for an authority site and further development using The Master Plan.
I stray off course by buying stupid WSO’s and sometimes software product. I’m not shy about getting my money back if it doesn’t fit what I’m doing. Sometimes I’ll buy something just to see if I can use it or write a blog post about it, whether good or bad. Sometimes I buy stuff just out of curiosity.
I don’t have time to do much more than that. Blogs are my comfort zone. I have a full-time job and family. I hate to be blunt but I can do blogs quickly and efficiently.
I’m sure I look like I’m all over the place but that is just because I enjoy seeing what else is out there and I tend to write about it. My basic blog building plan never wavers. The number may from month to month, but not the basic plan.

Okay, Splork… you’re getting there. But look what you wrote:

Confucious said, “He who chases two rabbits, catches neither one.”
You’re still chasing rabbits.
If I were you: I would stick with ONE thing until it works. Rinse & repeat.
Then, if and when they are working, I would either continue what is successful or start another avenue.
I am doing ClickBank affiliate marketing. Period. No AdSense (except for one site which gets me about $60 a month, but I don’t ever touch it). No PLR. No Stomper. Nothing.
ClickBank affiliate marketing. I use Adwords to promote it.
Have I made money? Well, yes and no:
First, I stopped hemorrhaging money.
Second, some money is coming in (so far in this pay period with CB: $339.27 - that’s for 2 weeks and the 2 weeks aren’t over yet).
I think I’ll be in the black in a few months.
Why?
Because I am getting focused. I am learning to focus on one thing.
My thinking is that most of these things *do* work: Affilorama, PLR Pro, Day Job Killer, etc. etc…. but they won’t work all at once as your first project.
Kellogg’s didn’t have 50 cereals when they started; they started with one.
Start with ONE plan. Doing blogs? Do blogs. Not blogs with affiliate marketing, then this and that.
I love ya, Splork… Let’s make 2007 THE year!

Nah man. Too limiting. Diversification is not a bad thing. I like blogs. I like to build mini affiliate sites. They both make me money. One with Adsense, Chitika and Kontera, the other with affiliate products. If either do well then it’s time to ramp up The Master Plan, build with Joomla, and make an authority site. More money possible. Adding good content is all that matters in the end and I accomplish that.

Hey Trance,
You have a point but Splork seems pretty stuck with his plan. Sometimes people just need to work it out themselves. Personally, I’m 100% with the focus and master one thing at a time. Being out here interning with Russell…I know he would say the exact same thing.
Maybe Splork has a system down…I dunno…Maybe he’s the type that can juggle many things at once…I dunno.
Oh yeah and Splork…seeing as you are into article marketing here’s a sneak peak at a product thats coming out by Jason Potash.

I have a review copy of it on my desktop and it
REALLY delivers.

Nope. Bottom line is I make money doing what I do. We’ll just have to differ on how we want to approach this biz cause there is no way I can simply, say, churn out blog after blog following the same simple plan day after day. Doesn’t work for me. I lose interest. I have to mix things up a bit by doing something different or trying something new. And seriously, why would I want to rely on one single method? If I had been laser focused on MySpace marketing I would have lost my entire business in the span of a week when the lawyers began their spamhunt. Lots of people are going to lose significant amounts of their business due to that shakeout.

Well, there’s a different in “putting all your eggs in one basket” and focus.
But, you need to do what you need to do. (Or, as Popeye said, “I yam what I yam. Agg-gig-gig-gig-gig-gig-gig — toot-toot!)
