I have nothing to write about concerning SEO and IM and all that bullshit. Actually, more precisely, I have nothing original to write about SEO and IM. Really. I wonder sometimes how many times I can get away with writing about how IM sucks. Or how Google sucks. Or how great XSP and Wordpress.com is. Or how mediocre my earnings are from month to month. I will say that concerning my little .info experiment, Googlebot has made the rounds each day this week, as has Slurp. That has to be a good thing, right? No indexing has occurred yet but I’m still hopeful. I add a page a day. Nothing more. I’ve been too lazy to take down BANS and add XSP on more than that one site. Actually laziness has nothing to do with it. Daughter’s softball and interest in the Olympics has gotten the bulk of my attention after leaving my daily visit to the cube.
So, since I have nothing more to offer on my online games I decided to drop my thoughts about the Olympic games. Here they go:
Did you know that there were other American swimmers racing in the Olympics besides Michael Phelps? It’s true. And some even got medals of their own.
BTW, out of all the athlete’s mothers why was Phelps such a big deal to NBC? I’m sure the other mothers were just as proud of their kids.
I don’t believe for a minute that those Chinese gymnasts are 16 or older.
I totally dig the attitude that the American men’s basketball team have come to these games with. They finally take the tournament seriously. They respect it. They respect playing for their country. And they are enjoying their Olympic experience. I’ve never cared one bit for pro basketball but I definitely have a new respect for Kobe, LeBron and the rest. They have represented themselves, their families and their country well.
The games in the East suck ass for TV viewing in the West. Sure the marquee events are shown in prime time but there are so many other events worth watching that I don’t get to see. I prefer it all be live and I could just surf around over the different channels watching what I want. I think London will be better in this regard.
I enjoyed the beach volleyball finals. I hate that I didn’t get to see hardly any of the other volleyball. That is some fantastic play. As much as these States like ball games, it’s hard to understand why volleyball isn’t more popular.
Are the men’s track team solely dominated by ego maniacal assholes? Obviously that is rhetorical. Most of the post race interviews of these guys were embarrassing to watch. They didn’t make eye contact with the camera or the interviewer. The mumbled some bullshit statement and strutted away. The women on the other hand came with a smile and graciousness.
Maybe the track teams need to do like the basketball team did and foster more team instead of individuality. Is it any surprise that they flubbed the relays? The Americans came into the Olympics expecting boatloads of gold and glory. Embarrassingly, collectively they won’t win as many gold medals in track and field as Michael Phelps did himself.
It was nice to see Jeremy Wariner get smoked. He’s an ass. You know, Wariner realized he was losing and simply quit trying. The guy is a silver medal winning quitter and poor sportsman. But then again the guy that beat him had a sizable and unattractive ego as well so screw ‘em both. The dude that dove over the line to get bronze- that is the one I’m most proud of. That’s heart. That’s effort. And he was smiling and damn happy to get a medal.
I don’t care for events that are judged. Too many mistakes can be made. One person’s interpretation is different than another’s. I want to see races and games. I enjoy the story and the competition but judged events are basically crap. I don’t understand them. I do understand a point or a time.
Phelps took a lot of crap for sponsoring Frosted Flakes. The word is that it will encourage kids to eat sugary cereal with the dreams of being an Olympic champion. How about encouraging your kids not to sit in front of the TV and eating 3 bowls of the sugary goodness? Maybe encourage them to move their legs further than simply walking back to the frig. That might help with fat kids.
Usain Bolt is from another planet. While the rest of the runners churned their legs like they were trying to spontaneously explode, Bolt just coasted down the track effortlessly. Wow.
I’m most disappointed that the American women lost the gold medal game in softball. And it’s the last. WTF is that about? They keep events like table tennis and horse events yet they remove softball. Really? I have nothing against ping-pong and synchonized swimming and goofy events like that, but if they stay how can you justify taking out softball?
All politics aside, I thought it was way cool that the US president rode the Olympic mountain bike course.
Do you get post Olympic withdrawals? I do. But then again I feel the same way after 3 weeks of the Tour de France. I enjoy watching it each day. It is something I look forward to and I miss it when it ends. Kind of like how you will feel now since I’m done writing this crap.

I think that NBC has blown the Olympic coverage. They had so much footage…why not make nbcolympics.com a YouTube or Hulu type site where you can watch clips of events that already happened? After Phelps’ swims or Bolt’s runs there were tons of people looking for video clips but they didn’t exist (except on YouTube until they were taken down). At the very least they could have hooked up with iTunes and sold high quality video of the day’s events for between $0.99 - $4.99 (depending on how long the event was).
To be fair, they did an awesome job providing live coverage online, but by not providing video of completed events, they’ve really missed the boat.

Great post!
You forgot to mention one thing about the Olympics…
WTF is the CHINESE SPORTS ACADEMY?
Sounds like modern day slavery!

NBC’s TV coverage pretty much sucked. All they care about is making sure they get their investment back plus profit. Which they did.
No doubt about the CSA. There was a lot of fear in those 12 year olds eyes.

Only residents of the U.S. can watch the olympics on the NBC website

That sucks. I watched the women’s mountain bike race last night online and the coverage was awesome. Too bad you couldn’t find a US proxy to go through.

Why don’t the add cricket to the Olympics? 20-20 cricket might be a good addition. Way better than horse riding and some of the crappy games featured in Olympics.
Yep, Usain Bolt is from another planet. And I love his attitude and style. So much to the American runners who were more concentrated about their fashion shades than their running. Some acted like they were doing a photo shoot.
