I don’t know about you guys but I have two great web hosting services that I use. I mention this because recently all my auto postings from products like Orwell Pro, BlogDesk and RSStoBlog just stopped working. Seems that the host upgraded to the very latest version of PHP which causes issues with the XMLRPC function. At least that’s what the tech support guys at mediacatch told me about 20 minutes after I emailed my concerns. They suggested that I contact the script writers to see if they have updates available for the new version of PHP.
Oh yea I emailed OrwellPro and RSStoBlog and all I got was a bunch of runaround emails asking if I had this or that set up right. Um, yea, nothing changed. It worked the day before. It doesn’t work today. Help? They had no idea about why this would affect their product. I have a hard time believing that out of the thousands that use these products I will be the only one to come across this issue when web hosts start upgrading their PHP to ver 5.2.2. Maybe I will.
At any rate leave it to the smart guys at mediacatch to make a few config changes and server update to get everything up and running. I have no idea who is to blame here. Don’t really care. There really is no blame. I love all the products involved. Use them virtually everyday. I just find it interesting, amusing maybe, that my web host was the most interested in my problem and was willing to do whatever it took to make me a satisfied customer, including downgrading PHP on the server. Sorry, can’t say that at all for the software providers.
MediaCatch. Yep it’s an affiliate link. Couldn’t be any happier with the service or price for my reseller account. I just like it when things work. I’m a happy camper right now and decided to let you know despite your complete lack of interest.

Hi Splork,
We are interested and we feel your pain too - every damn day!
It’s the price we pay for working at the forefront of technology each day while chasing the carrot that is internet riches and early retirement. Or early expirement

Hey Splork.
Do you have any idea what the previous version of PHP on your server was? If it was one of the incarnations of PHP 5, then you were probably experiencing a bug that came from the upgrade.
One the other hand, I’d be really surprised if you had been running on PHP 4 all this time … PHP 5 has been around for a while now, and I would hope that any script you procured would work just fine under PHP 5. There is a likelihood that a newer script written for PHP 5 would not work under PHP 4, so that’s something to consider if they had to downgrade you to PHP 4.
Anyhow, I’m glad you hosting provider was able to resolve your problem, even if the script purveyors stood idly by.
