Trackback Spam

June 4th, 2007 · 3 Comments

I tried to stay away from commenting on this. I’m trying to channel my energy for good and not evil. Think only positive things and only positive things will happen. As most of you Internet Marketers know, since you all get the same emails daily, a wonderful (shitty) program was released into the wild a week or so ago called Trackback Spider.

This lovely program apparently allows the user to spam your blog with trackbacks. Unwelcomed trackbacks. See, trackbacks were cool little things that bloggers used to get notified when someone linked to their post. I got a link and you got a link. Our blogs are communicating with each other. How nice.

But now TS (total shit, oh, sorry, Trackback Spider) allows those special 300 people to circumvent “hard work” and have an automated  tool to search for blogs related to your niche and send out trackbacks. At least that’s what the salescopy, or educational .pdf seems to inform me. The hell do I want some black hat asshat automating a trackback onto my blogs? If you want participate in my blogging then leave actual comments that mean something. Not some automated junk that sends a link from my blogs back to yours. And please don’t tell me this tool can and will be used for the good. Whatever. It just helps add more junk on the web no matter how you justify it and how much money you can scrape up. I’ll have nothing to do with it.

I moderate all comments and so far I haven’t had to delete too many. Just wait until the 300 chosen start learning how to use this tool. It will be so fun deleting trackbacks. Hopefully Spam Karma will do its job. Thanks Dave.

You haven’t started seeing the results yet? That’s strange considering my trackback spam (all caught by Akismet, luckily) skyrocketed over the past week. It’s insane — so insane I decided to turn off trackbacks on all but the necessary posts (i.e. my trackback tutorial, but even that’s getting slammed). *Sigh*.

Oh, by the way, I thought you’d be all over this MME launch…what happened? :)

Oh yea my spam is increased. I guage how bad it is by how many I have to moderate. And so far I haven’t had too many slip through.

As far as MME. I know. I’m ashamed. There is only so much time in the day though. I’ve received at least 10 emails for the crap. I didn’t even bother looking at them. I have been promoting the crap out of my blogs lately. Between Portal Feeder and PLRPro I’ve been writing articles and snippets and posting then to their Blog networks.

BTW-I just recently reconfigured a rug blog of mine by the way and used WPDFI to help populate it. I couldn’t get PF to work right so I went back to what works.
