I am so sick of the sales tactics that internet marketer’s are using these days. The time decay ruse is something that we as consumers need to stop dead in its tracks. You realize that as consumers of these products we control how that works. If sheeple would stop getting so freaked out because Gary Guru is going to pull the product from the market in 10 days or raise the price from $67 to $297 at the end of the month, then we as consumers could get back in control of this consumerism.
You realize that nowhere else in capitalism is the advantage so one-sided as it is between the guru and the wanna-be. The guru sees us as the ultimate in captivated audience. We are like a thirsty man in the desert.
We all so want to believe that we will make 5 figures in Adsense revenue with 10 sites in thirty days. We just know that their latest ebook for $47 will give us all the answers. It has to. The 7,000 word sales copy says it will. Guaranteed. 100%.
So you better get the ebook now before it’s taken off the market for at least another 3 months. And look out! When it comes back it’s going to cost you more because more stuff will be added to it.
OK. So why can’t I buy the old version “on sale”? Maybe there would be enough information contained in the old ebook to satisfy my needs. “Can’t do that man. You need the lastest version. But it’ll cost ya, hehe”.
The guru has to make sure you understand how important it is to get the product NOW. Why? Well don’t you know that if he smells the fear, the anxiety, then he knows you’ll fall for the ruse and he’ll pocket mad cash. It is proven that they get the vast majority of their sales in the first couple of weeks of the offer. Maximum profits galore when the consumer thinks the product is only available for a short period of time.
Could you possibly imagine if Best Buy said, “if you don’t buy this Plasma TV today, then you have to understand the price will go up in 10 days at 11:59EST”. You’d roll your eyes and check out the deals at Circuit City.
The other thing is that the guberu does not want you to think about purchasing their product. If you have time to think about it, you would come to the conclusion that you really didn’t need the product. But the slick guberu knows he can cast a doubt in your mind if he makes you think that the offer is time sensitive.
It all comes down to these products finding you. Not you finding the products. Why are those impulse items so popular at the checkout line at the grocery store? Because you are a captive audience. Those items find you. You didn’t find them like everything else in your basket.
Force yourself to think in terms of what products can help you in your business. If you need to know more about Adsense then figure out which book will serve the purpose and seek it out.
I’ll be happily building Adsense sites with blogs and I’ll get an offer for a new builder that promises 5 figures using affiliate programs, that expires in 14 days, and the price goes up everyday…and I take my eye off the ball one more time.

“You realize that nowhere else in capitalism is the advantage so one-sided as it is between the guru and the wanna-be.”
Very insightful man.
As I work my way through your posts (being brand new to this site) I’m kind of reeling from having the mirror held up so that I can see how I’ve gotton off the path so many times. Painful, but good medicine.
This is a very well written post.
Keep it up.
