Social Bookmark Icons

I have never been a big fan of lining my posts with a who’s who listing of social bookmarking sites.

I don’t think people use them. If your post is bad-ass enough, the people who know how to social bookmark will bookmark your post all the same. I’m pretty sure that you are not doing any one any favors by offering them the opportunity to socialize on your behalf with a cute icon. It looks junky. Why not put an ad there instead?

I take my cue from blogs like Dailyblogtips.com. You don’t see those icons on those type of blogs. And really the only place you see them is on niche blogs. All of us traffic beggers.

Problogger.net offers you the opportunity to Digg a post or save it at Technorati. That should be sufficient. If some reader decides to bookmark it somewhere else like Tumblr or deli.cio.us or Stumbleupon then they will already have the plug-in for Firefox or IE to do so. You know? Heck, diggers and Technorati folks already have the plug-ins so the reminder on Problogger is still kind of redundant.

Anyway, I don’t think the reader is going to click through the cute little icons to figure out where to socialize your content. Particularly if all you post is re-written PLR. Sorry, it’s just not that compelling. So get rid of those eye-sores.
