I Read Life After Adsense

September 21st, 2006 · No Comments

I just read through Life After Adsense. I’m sure everybody has read The Death of Adsense. Supposedly it is controversial but I didn’t really see it that way. The writer probably wanted you to think it was controversial so he could get more opt-ins. It was entertaining but not really anything earth shattering. We all know Adsense sucks. My Adsense income has gone down since the debut of Smart Pricing. Or at least it appears that is the case. Maybe it’s because I’m an inept Adsense site builder. Irregardless, I’ve been trying to diversify away from Adsense (ala Affilorama) and the report was basically telling me what I already know and believe.

Life After Adsense is a much better read but still opens up a zillion questions. Most people who want to create an online business or who already have an online business know about Adwords. Sooner or later you’ll hear about running ad campaigns to drive traffic to affiliate programs or pay-per-lead offers. The idea being that in the end you pay a lower amount for the ads than you get paid by the program. You spend $20 for a bunch of Google ads to drive traffic to a nose hair coloring site that pays you $25 for a lead or product sale. Do that 20 times and you have profited $100.

That is the gist of the report. It tells you what makes money, but doesn’t really tell you how to do it. It’s a really easy model but it’s very hard to implement. I played the game and broke even. I found it discouraging, yet encouraging at the same time. I saw the potential yet there was so many ways to flounder.

This report might motivate you to look at the Adwords model for making money. Just don’t expect a step-by-step how to do it after reading it.

That said, you should pick up both ebooks if you haven’t already. Why not? They’re free. The Death of Adsense? Sure. It’s a much harder game. Whatever I earn from Adsense is the cream.

Life After Adsense. eh. I’m curious where he is going with all this. His message is absolutely correct. It’s just a lot harder than I think the average reader realizes.

What will I do with the information? Not sure. I may revisit an expensive course I purchased for making Adwords riches. Review some of the Affilorama lessons again and see if I can do better. Fire up Traffic Travis, that free tool at Affilorama that so many of us have ignored, and see what it can do to help me. There are about 5 videos just on using TT for Adwords.

What I do know is that the Adsense train passed me by. I’ve been on one of those little handcars pumping feverishly trying to catch up ever since. Marketing tangible goods has and always will be a good model. These reports just kind of put that gentle reminder back in front of me again.
