Internet Audio and Video

March 16th, 2007 · 2 Comments

This week’s JV spam is from a dude named Jason James. He got all the big list holders to pimp his program which shows you how to put audio and video on your website. Good for him. He should be having a good weekend.

I haven’t purchased the package, nor am I likely to do so. And I guess I could work up some angle to make fun of his offering. But the thing is, as stupid as 95% of all video I’ve seen on the ‘net is, I gotta say this is where the future lies. If I was inclined to learn more about audio and video I probably would buy the package just to educate myself on how this could help me make money and/or provide entertainment.

I think creating video for your websites could be a lot of fun. And I bet it would be a lot less soul sucking than sitting around trying to write and re-write articles. My daughter and her friends hang around making all sorts of stupid videos and sharing them with their friends. These kids aren’t growing up with the ‘net like I did. It was all static pages back in the day. It almost seems as if we are still building web pages for dial-up. 400-500 words per page. Text ads. Ads above the fold. Maybe it’s time to evolve a bit.

Take a look at the garbage that is MySpace. Every garish page has video and audio splashed everywhere. It’s what people expect today. Millions of horny people can’t all be wrong.

If you think about it you’d be far better off creating 5-8 minute videos about whatever your niche is than spending time writing about it. I can’t believe I’m saying that because I generally abhor getting these videos to watch in my email or having to sit through them at websites. But that is my malfunction. Other people love this stuff.

I could see buying some CrapBank product or affiliate product and showing how it works for you through video. You could do it on anything if you think about it. Let’s say I wanted to promote a new laptop I just bought. What would be better, a 5 to 8 minute, 3 series video report on the features of the laptop or a 400-1000 word review? I dunno, but if I was interested in the laptop could see the value of someone showing me exactly why I should buy it via video.

I’m also a believer in the potential of driving traffic to your website simply by making a video and posting it at Google Video/You Tube or MySpace or wherever. Be clever and you could have tons of people watching the video and people clicking over to your website for more info.

And again, video just seems fun. I could see buying this program simply because you wanted to learn about Internet video and audio and just have fun with it. Irregardless if you chose to use it for marketing. Aren’t we supposed to be having fun along the way?

One problem with videos is that Google can’t index their internal content so you won’t get the same SEO benefits that you would from written articles that contain highly searched for keywords.

Marc, I read somewhere that you should write a transcript for the video so that it can show up on search listings
