A Simple Thought From a Simple Mind

August 24th, 2006 · 11 Comments

Good day New Zealand. Thanks to those reading my blog. I really hope to visit one day.

Ewen Chia has his army out pimping his new mentoring course. He promotes like crazy everybody else’s packages and makes a mint, so it’s only fair that turn around is fair play so the pimper finally gets pimped himself. Good for him. Good for them. Everybody will make lots of money.

I’m not going to bash The Super Affiliate Cloning Program. It has a fabulous sales copy and tons of top internet marketing personalities praising the course. But personally I will never purchase expensive mentoring again. The burn was not enjoyable.

A couple of forums I hang in have talked about this program. Seems as though people are growing wary of spending big bucks for these mentorship programs. I’m sure Chia’s program will sell out quickly. But more questions are being raised. People are quick to point out that the tried and true means of making money on the internet apply. I think there is a low rumbling backlash brewing for these type of offers. People are finally becoming more aware of just how deep these marketer’s are willing to go into your pockets. And I’m glad for that.

As I was reading the The Super Affiliate Cloning Program’s fabulous ad copy I was asking myself would this be good for me and do I really need this? And the answer I quickly came up with was a resounding no.

I make no secret that I belong to Affilorama and PLRPro. I’m proud of that fact and throroughly enjoy my memberships. Want to know how to be successful on the internet? (And salt grain this one friends as I don’t make my living with clicks and selling people other people’s stuff.)

  • Spend $200 and get yourself a lifetime membership to Affilorama before they go to a monthly membership. Go through all the videos, but pay particular attention to the 90-day Roadmap. Follow it. It’s a map. Ask Mark for help. I say again, ask Mark for help.
  • Join PLRPro. $67/month. If you’re clever it will cost you $47/month. At any rate, I believe the price will be going up soon, if there is even a slot available. Grab a copy of the Player’s Handbook. It tells you how to build article sites. The knuckleheads (with respect :) ) who run the joint will help you if you ask. Submit your articles to the article announcer and be glad you aren’t paying $97 for Article Underground.
  • Go to SEO2020.com and download “The Plan”. It’s free. And while you are at it sign up at the forum and read through the SEO articles. There is some excellent stuff being discussed to help you.

If you want a successful website the path is clear. Build it fat (nod to Dr. Henry), build it slow (nod to SBI) and build it with quality (nod to Affilorama). Promotion is everything. Submit articles. Submit your link to directories. Trade links with like minded webmasters. Backlinks. Backlinks. Backlinks. And keep the site lively.

It’s the recipe that I am following. Is it making me rich? Nope. Not at all. I am retooling myself from build and fling to creating a quality space. I’m willing to take time with it, because I know that the sites I build today, following the plan, will always be loved by the search engines and hopefully by visitors. Then maybe I’ll start making good money.

So you can spend your money on expensive mentorships if you want, but the answer to all you questions can be found much cheaper and without all the hype. Seriously, we all know what to do, we just seem to be on this never ending quest to find the ultimate do it all program.

Bottom line: Quality. It’s all about quality. The web is quickly forcing those that want to play this game to deliver entertainment or knowledge. Sites with value. You know it and I know it. We don’t need fancy programs to tell us that.

And, really. Chia’s success is in “the list”. It’s all in the email list. There is no secret really. Do whatever it takes to capture as many emails as possible and hound the crap out of the subscribers with as many products you can pimp.

    Hi,
Stumbled across your site last night - what a joy!
Island of sanity in an ocean of hype.
I’ve been buying all the bright new shiny toys for about a year now, spending $200 a month and earning $10 - not a great equation.
I belong to PLRPro, have The Plan, and I’m thinking about Affilorama.
    Do I understand you correctly?
1 Article-based content sites of the 30 to 50 page variety are largely a waste of time?
2 Either find something that you can grow into a real authority site (Dr. Andy Williams “fat” site) or forget about it?
3 Affiliate marketing and/or your own original product offer the only real chance of earning a liveable income on the Web?
Great site - now on my (very small) daily list.
    Best wishes,
    Darrell

Hey Darrell. Thanks for dropping by.

    1. Yikes I hope that wasn’t the impression I gave. I think those sites are just fine. I think that you can probably have a site with 10 pages and as long as it adds value, blah, blah, blah it will do well in Google and with your visitors.
    2. I think so-called authority sites are what you should aspire to. I would love to have 8-10 sites that were the authority on the topic. But that’s not going to happen any time soon for me. I only consider authority sites for topics I care about. And really how many things can you be totally passionate about and maintain? But you can still make money with great little article sites. Read “The Plan”. It’s what is guiding me.
    3. I think affiliate marketing may be the only solid way to make money. Adsense is great but you never know what kind of changes Google may have in store. I would rather be able to drive traffic to a site that sells tangible goods and I get a cut of the commish than playing the adsense game. I think this type of marketing will always be around. You will always be able to grab a datafeed and build a site. You will always be able to link to some cool product. PPC? Who knows. Click-fraud is problem. Google changes the rules for adwords all the time. If you can build an email list, which I don’t, you can always pimp some swag to your customer. Adsense may go away but your list never will.

Hope that makes sense. Remember, I’m just a dude like yourself. My advice may not be worth the time it takes me to give it. I’m just sharing what I’m doing and the things I see in this business that I think will make me money or lose me money.

    Thanks for reading.

Hmmm. I may have missed the Affilorama boat. I see they went monthly yesterday and I just really started reading about it today.

    Oh, well.

Appreciate your blog — great reading and very informative. Nice to meet another person who is REAL and is doing the “do”

What did you mean that if you are CLEVER you can get PLRPro for $47??

    Thanks,
    JK

    Heya Splork,

I just wanted to drop in and let you know that I enjoy reading your blog more than any other on my list.

I am also a pretty new to IM (started in January of this year) and have experienced many of the same things you have experienced. I debating on whether or not to join Affilorama. Does it primarily focus on PPC?

    Chris

Also, I don’t see a lifetime membership offer for Affilorama. Is it still available?

    Chris

  • Splork // Aug 29, 2006 at 5:56 pm

Chris, appreciate the kind words about the blog.

Lifetime membership is over unless you belong to PLRPro. Mark and Marc have worked out something mutually beneficial for the two sites.

Affilorama is much more than PPC. There are a few videos on the topic and Mark will help you with it if you want to go that route but it’s not just PPC. Basically it is for those webmasters who want to learn how build quality sites. Real sites. Not those just for Adsense. He won’t teach you how to build a mininet of blogs to drive traffic, etc, etc. He keeps it very real. He teaches you how to build the kind of sites that will be around a long time and what the SE will ultimately want to index.

    Thanks for reading

JK, Mark from PLRPro is offering discounts on the membership in some of the forums he frequents. I would suggest SEO2020.com. It’s a great forum. It’s a great site. He might be offering it there.

    Thanks for reading

You are so right! I wasted my money on Chia’s Super Affiliate Cloning Center. And because of the short refund period, it was too late to demand a refund.

I will never buy anything from Ewen Chia again or any other “guru”!
