I spent the last two weeks vacationing in Orlando. I had a glorious time in Disney World and Universal blowing through my clicktastic winnings from the past year. The playgrounds were fantastic and the family had an enjoyable time. Spending time with my family at enjoyable locations such as this is the reason I bother creating websites for the consuming herd. That and adding to my soon to be worthless USD saving accounts.
I am constantly amazed at the efficiency of Disney. If only they were in charge of the TSA. You would have friendly employees that care about your well-being. They could rapidly deliver proper security service at maximum speed. Traffic through the gates would move at an even pace allowing you to quickly be on your way to wherever your destination is. The challenges of arriving and leaving Disney parks within the herd is mitigated by their unbelievable competence, unlike anything to do with the TSA, or government, for that matter.
This year was my first visit to Universal. The differences between it and Disney couldn’t be more stark. They are both fun parks but one is an experience, the other is a destination. You experience Disney. Universal is a funhouse. I thought about the differences and concluded Disney has a single point of reference to always rally around: Walt Disney. It is singularly focused. Universal does not have a reference point.
Universal has better rides. The Hulk. Rip Rockit Coaster (wow!). The kids loved the Harry Potter ride. Of all the rides I have ever ridden it is the only one that completely nauseated me. The Simpson Ride (hilarious and insanely visual). Terminator 3D which is not a ride but a live action 3D movie. The Mummy. Spiderman. Etc., etc.
I had to laugh at Universal. I think outside Rio beaches there was probably not a larger concentration of skinny plastic Brazillian chicks roaming the planet. It was astonishing to see the massive chest inflatables as well as over processed facial work. What is up with all this fake body work?
Anyway, Disney is still our favorite. The employees are friendlier. The people visiting are happier. Families with older teenagers, particularly boys, will probably dig Universal more. Younger families will feel more comfortable at Disney.
It was nice to take a break from the drudgery of office droning as well web slinging. I allowed myself time to check out a new tool and update some Squidoo properties as well as a blog or two. Nothing taxing. I didn’t stand by and watch the world continue its burn either. Blissfully unaware of political bullshit and economic catastrophe. It was a grand time. Now on to Christmas!
