“BumMarketing - Worth all the fuss?”
On September 26th I posted on this blog that I had found a cool website that detailed how to do Bum Marketing. It’s a fantastic way of generating affiliate income, if you love to write. And submit articles to the directories. It’s painful but it works. I guess I wasn’t very smart though. From the looks of all today’s Warrior Forum Crap (I didn’t read these so technically I shouldn’t be critiquing them as crap) Offers and my emails, we have a ton of opportunistic guru wannabees riding the coat tail of Travis Sago. I find all these ebooks very funny as the whole premise of Bum Marketing is that it is free. It is easy. But it will take work. And who the hell wants to do that?
How exactly do you make something as simple as finding the right keywords, write an article, link to affiliate product and submit to the directories, any easier? How do you cheat this? And why bother? I wonder how many people went to the Bum Marketing Method website, signed up for the free course and still bought these crap (ditto above) offerings above. Because if they did they simply don’t want to put in the work required of being a Bum Marketer.

If you take article marketing and strip out the landing page (sending traffic straight to merchant), you get Travis Sago’s Bum marketing. It’s kind of like stripping out the landing page of pay per click marketing and getting Chris Carpenter’s Google Cash method (where you pay for your clicks with money instead of with time put into writing.) Anyway, it’s a good concept. I’m wondering if it’s popularity will bring it down somehow.
As far as all these wannabees trying to make a buck off of Travis’s idea, it’s probably a good thing in that hopefully some refinements in the method will result.

I’m already bored to death with the concept. Seems so hit and miss, but then I haven’t really tried it.
Why “bum?” I guess because it’s free. Otherwise, it sure looks like *a lot of work* to me, not something I imagine a lot of bums would be interested in.
I’m not knocking it. I think it’s suited to certain kinds of people, but I don’t think it’s good for the ADD type like myself. The whole thing sounds like such a tedious process to this bum.
I’m waiting for homeless-mental-patient-marketing to launch. I think it may suit my temperament better.

Exactly. It is very hit and miss. Write ten articles, submit to the article directories, one of the ten may actually bring in some affiliate sales. However, you still have the back links to your site. I get alot of clicks to my site from articles I’ve written. They may not make any sales but they might help with the Adsense click.

You make KIND of a relevant point here, but I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to slam other marketers for capitalizing on Sago’s free material. It’s a hot marketing concept right now, with a lot of buzz surrounding it. As marketers, our goal isn’t really to always make a unique, original product. It’s to find a hot market, find out what they want, and give it to them at a profitable price. Like you pointed out, “Bum” marketing isn’t easy; it’s cheap. If someone has a tool or method that will make it easier or faster or better than described in the free version, there is absolutely nothing wrong with offering that. The market only buys what it wants. If you, as a marketer, start becoming concerned about people buying products they don’t really need, maybe you’re in the wrong field. Consumerism is what drives this profession.

Hey Collin. I actually admire these guys for capitalizing on Bum Marketing the way they have. If consumers think these methods have value and can speed up the process of being a bum then by all means it’s their money to blow. I just find it humorous that something as cookie cutter and simple as Bum Marketing is, can be exploited for making a buck. Internet marketing is certainly interesting.

Hey Yah, Splorky…
I’m a little upset with you. Here I was freely promoting your blog in all the “what blogs do you read” threads around the net…then I find out you are bashing me.
I am the creator of “How to Cheat at Bum Marketing.”
1.) My job as a marketer is to find a school of hungry fish, find out what bait they like, and give them that bait.
2.) I received and still receive many testimonials to my “How to Cheat at Bum Marketing” product.
3.) It’s not that these “bums” can’t follow the simple bum marketing method. Per my research they as Internet marketing rookies, are now ready for the next step. Thats what I give them in my detailed case study and step-by-step video tutorial. I teach them how to accelerate and maximize their bum marketing efforts.
I spread the word about your blog all the time because of your honesty and integrity. However, I do not appreciate critiques on products from people who have not even bought the product.
As a marketer yourself…is that really fair?
P.S. I leave on Wednesday for the Russell Brunson Internship that I won. Get in touch with me if you are interested in some exclusive coverage of certain parts of my documented experience.
Onwards and Upwards,
Justin Brooke

Hey Justin. I see your point. The only critique I leveled though was calling the offerings “crap”. You’re right, I haven’t read any of them so in no way can I declare any of them crap. I apologize to you and the other authors.
I’m glad you came in and gave us a better understanding of your product.

Bum Marketing is for those who are desparate and have no other means of making money online. You must have your own product, period. With affiliate products you compete with thousands of others selling the same product you are. I don’t care how many articles you write — money will be a trickle at best.

George I dont think all marketers are desperate. Some who are already successful seems to still like to use bum marketing methods. I found this blog because I was searching free methods to get started in bum marketing without all the time consumption. The reason I haven’t done bum marketing is because it is time consuming and I lack financial reseoures to make the money fast. I know there are faster ways to make money but if you lack resources you, “get in where you fit in”.
The end.
