Jennifer the Internet Marketing Badger sent a comment over talking about how well her WP blogs are doing in Google. I started responding to it and it ended up being a typical ramble so I thought I’d go ahead and make a post out of it. Ideas for posting don’t come around very often so I figured I better take the opportunity when I can.
Anyway, these Wordpress.com blogs are amazing. I’m turning up on the first page for all sorts of topics. And I’m not really targeting keywords. I’m just blogging. But when I look at the stats and check the keyword in Google I see that I am planted in the top 10. And I’m not talking about some keyword that nobody is blogging about. I’m talking about popular gadgets. Sporting teams. News events. The authority WP.com is wielding with Google right now is astounding.
I have basically forsaken my Blogger Blogs for now. I update them maybe once every few weeks or so. They don’t rate much in Google. With Wordpress.com blogs it’s easy enough to splash a photo and a quick nonsense post on the blog. The next day you’ll find the post indexed and if you’re lucky ranked for a major keyword without even trying. Of course, the problem is you can’t monetize these blogs like Blogger. Maybe that’s why they don’t get sent to the box like other blogs and websites.
So what’s the point? One reason I like them is I get instant results. I feel like I am accomplishing something for a change. Even if it’s rather meaningless monetarily for now. I think they will be worth something in the future as far as quality backlinks. Actually I use them for that purpose now very sparingly. Maybe a single link to a “money” site every two or three posts. Nothing greedy. And I figure if I can build them up in the search engines they will help me recover and increase the value of those waylaid Blogger blogs and others.
I’ve even begun promoting the Wordpress.com blogs. I’ve been using Fast Blog Finder to get some extra links back to them. I’ve even put them in my BMD runs. Just building up the authority.
Wordpress.com blogs amuse me. A lot of folks won’t find them as entertaining as it takes some work to keep them going. It’s one reason I have Frank’s tool to help me out. But for the most part I simply enjoy blogging about random stuff. Used to be the only blogging I felt right about doing was niche blogging. Money blogging. This is a nice change of pace. And I believe ultimately will be a big help to the bigger picture. I don’t know how many I plan on building. I’m keeping it small unlike the madness I was doing with Blogger blogs. But I do want a nice manageable network of ranked Wordpress.com blogs.
