I listened to all the gurus say not to use Blogger. They said that Blogger could shut your site down whenever it wanted. That blog surfers could flag your site on a whim. That you have little control of your blog compared to the mighty WordPress. How frightening.
So, I stopped building Blogger blogs. I stopped posting to Blogger blogs already built. I ramped up my WordPress efforts. (Don’t get me wrong; with all the plug-in goodness available, WP blogging is fun, easy and enjoyable.)
But I discovered something a week or so ago. Blogger is pretty cool now. Yea, the “new Blogger” isn’t so new anymore. But it is to me. I changed over all my old Blogger blogs that were still available to me. The new features are pretty nice. I like the improved dashboard. There are new templates to use. The have tagging, which they call labels. Not sure what good it will do. I mean it ’s probably not as bad-ass as Ultimate Tag Warrior but it certainly can’t hurt.
So why am I bothering with Blogger? I use them to feed a little traffic to my WP blogs. I don’t generally put Adsense on them. I just make quick little (Blogger) blogs about my topic and post links to my (WP) money blogs. I don’t build thousands of Blogger blogs. Just a couple for each of my niche WP blogs. Why not? It takes 5 minutes to set up. Takes 5 minutes to post a little blurb about my topic. And no, I don’t try to write a 400-word article for every post. More like 100, maybe 200. Just a comment. A quick review. A link here.
I don’t figure it will make a difference in PageRank for my main blogs. But what I do hope is that with some carefully researched keyword phrase (Nichebot) use on the Blogger posts, I can get a little bit of long tail search engine traffic. Then direct it to my main sites. Every link helps, as long as it looks genuine and natural.
I like to blog. For those topics I care about it is not that hard to create these little mini blogs. I use Tumblr as well. They are quick and easy and I like using them. If they get shut down tomorrow it won’t mean a thing.
Yes, I know many of you are rolling your eyes about using Blogger. I just don’t think using Blogger is a bad idea at all. I wouldn’t build my money sites using it, if for nothing else you want to legitimize your game with a real domain name. But damn if I won’t continue using it to bring traffic to my site. And no, I’m not talking about spamming. I’m not talking about building anything more than 1 or 2 for each of my main blogs. What I am saying is that these Blogger blogs are ancillary to my main blogs.
I like Blogger.

I agree with you Splork. I think Blogger blogs are ok to use as long as you’re not using them for your main business, They are great for some back links and to get new sites/blogs indexed quicker.

Exactly. I wouldn’t base my main site on using one, but they are great to get extra traffic back to your site. And frankly I think they are pretty fun and easy to use.
I realize that has always been the case. There are tons of tools that can build thousands of blogger blogs in 2.3 seconds. But that’s not why I bring it up. Used judiciously, I think they can be of value where people would actually read them and follow your links instead of puking at the site of yet another crap link farm, assuming Google doesn’t beat them to it and delete it.
I think for those folks who have given up on using them because of all the crap people say against using them should give them another chance.

Nice post. I haven’t had the chance to move to Wordpress yet and I have to admit I’ve been enjoying Blogger. I do realize that it’s a good idea to start putting up WP blogs but it’s nice to know I don’t have to abandon Blogger forever… They make it so easy blog!
