I’ve been sick the last week. It was only this weekend where I had recovered enough to give a crap about my online ventures. For some reason I was motivated to try to get an inventory of all my blogs. Some are datafeed blogs and others are built pretty much for adsense. A lot of them were created using the Rapid Niche Website program. I’m not a fan of the program as hard as I try to like it so I replaced a few of those blogs with new themes. Other non-RNW blogs were freshened up with shiny new themes as well. It was like adding a fresh coat of paint or cutting the grass. Just made everything look and feel better. Some of these blogs haven’t been updated in a while so I added new posts to breathe life into them. Now the trick is to get some damn traffic to the things again.
Isn’t that the way it is with blogs? They are so easy to create but so hard to keep fresh and lively. It’s a tough business. Do you go wide with 100’s if not 1,000s of blogs and just automate them hoping for the best? Or do you go deep with a couple of really good blogs based on your interests? Arguments can be made either way.
I’ve been using RSS2B version 3 on a couple of blogs. Just stealing RSS content from sources and adding it to my site. I actually get some Adsense pennies each day from them for doing nothing. I had updated to version 4 many months ago but still just couldn’t grasp what the heck to do with it. I found it confusing and cumbersome. And since I had stopped building junk blogs, I didn’t really see the point in taking the time to learn how to build with it. I still don’t. If you are building legit blogs I suppose you could re-write or write a bunch of posts and add it to RSS2Blog via Article Extractor so you could post and forget. But why bother? Easy to use plug-ins allow for that. Anyway, the training videos really just seemed to be about creating spammy blogs and I couldn’t get my mind around how to use the program for good, and not evil, effectively. So I’ve put RSS2B4 to the side again.
In lieu of using RSS2B and Content Builder to post articles to my blogs, I decided to use Orwell Pro. This is pretty simple. You create a project for your blog or XSP site. You then search for an article based on whatever keyword you want. It returns however many articles from various sources. You click the one you want. It brings it up for your evaluation. You can check saturation and keyword density. Add your own commentary. Then simply post it to your site. Now I realize that it is heresy to re-post existing articles. All those crazy duplicate content concerns. But better that I publish something, with a little intro commentary, than nothing at all. With a couple of button pushes I’ve got a fairly fresh (check saturation) article on my blog. What the heck is wrong with that? Especially considering this blog is really nothing but a magnet for Adsense. Nothing Pulitzer Prize winning about it. And I am tired of writing a new article for every blog.

Hey Splork,
How’s the Affilorama membership coming along. I’ve been considering signing up and wanted to know your thoughts.

I think Affilorama is worth at least signing up for a month and seeing if it has what you are looking for. There is a ton of content in there. If you want to know how to do something to make money, chances are it will be in there. I signed up when you could get in for a set $200 fee. I don’t regret it.

Hi Splork,
Set-up lots of WP blogs? I probably won’t do that on DH. I spent yesterday updating less than 10 blogs to WP 2.1.1 because the 2.0.9 version would no longer work after DH upgraded to PHP 5.1
Upgrading WP blogs is not a fun activity. I’m tempted to shift back to non-WP blogs.

I’m a fan of Pivot. It’s a small little blog based out of Holland or somewhere like that. Been using it for a couple of years on some domains. It’s actually well supported and has a nice little community.
