Blogger Makes Me Laugh and Cry

May 23rd, 2008 · 10 Comments

Blogger sucks. Today and pretty much this whole month. My latest niche blog has been flagged at Blogger. It’s on bass fishing. No ads. No Adsense. It’s not like it’s bass fishing nude and I didn’t mark it as adult content. It’s just a stupid blog on bass fishing. Built yesterday. Three article posts. One has a link going to a site that isn’t even mine. And they flag it?

Blogger sucks

Now I know this is probably a mistake. I know it could be some asshat flagging it for spite. But this is just stupid. I’ve never had any Blogger blog flagged before. I’ve had them deleted because they were blackhat spam blogs. I’ve had them semi-flagged where you would have to do the captcha shit before the post would go live. But never flagged because they potentially violated their TOS or sensibilities or whatever.

I can’t even get into the damn thing to see what might be the problem.

This blog is under review due to possible Blogger Terms of Service violations and is currently unpublished. You can view your blog’s posts here in Blogger, but you may not make any changes.

No, I can’t view them assholes. I just find this aggravating. Unnecessary. Yea, it’s my own undoing since I’m too cheap to buy domains and host them myself. Guess I need to be changing that attitude. Can’t wait to see what comes of this.  This was my last niche blog for a while anyway.

Blogger is one hot mess. I also noticed Griz’s blog no longer appears for his several of his main keywords.

If he got the boot, I can only what the rest of us will experience.

    This sucks wind.

Last post I see from Grizz is April 30, 2008. I thought he was taking a break.

You’ve proven to your own satisfaction that WP is quicker than Blogger, so why mess with Blogger? Sure, it may be easier to monetize, but you can work around WP’s deficiencies.

Just one less thing to contend with.

Yea, I was using Blogger because I could eventually put Adsense on there.

Seems as though Griz is off the grid.

I spoke to soon. Good news, Griz is back on the first page for his main keyword.

I really like this guy as he along with yourself Splork are real genuine people helping others to make the best of our hopes and dreams of financial freedom.

    Keep climbing to the top.

    That sucks big time Splork.
I guess there are some a***oles on the net who have nothing better to do than flag blogs. That’s what I hate about Wordpress.com too - the fact that one stupid minded son of a bitch can take you down for no reason other than they feel like it.
This one sounds strange though. Could be a jealous bass fishing enthusiast…. probably not though.
Could it be because you posted 3 articles in the same day and made someone suspicious? If so, then I guess a lot of us had better watch out.

I was beginning to wonder about Griz too. I can no longer find his blog for his main keywords, even though it’s still there just fine.
S**t! Just when I was getting into making niche blogs on blogger too.
Maybe he’ll see this post and let us know…

Well I’m not quite ready to give up on Blogger just yet.The game is still all about getting links.

And I just checked and they unlocked my blog at Blogger. Full steam ahead.

Here’s the thing about blogs that I believe. Google expects that they be updated. It’s a blog. You are rewarded for blogging. I get the sense that they expect them to be updated on some kind of regular basis, whether it’s every day or every week.

If you don’t want to update a site, then I would suggest you get yourself XSP or some other HTML site builder and build a mini-site. I’ve got a niche site that has been mostly top 10 in Google since 2003 for a very specific but excellent keyword. It started as a HTML site. It was #1 for a long time for that keyword with zero SEO. I changed it over to a blog using Pivot. Then I changed it to a blog with WP. I got it into my head that it was important to do SEO, and hey, the guberus said that blogging was the only thing. The damn site bounced up and down in the rankings. I got tired of updating the effing thing and built a XSP site. It hasn’t budged out of the top 1o since and that’s been about a year now. I haven’t made a single change to it except add a StoreStacker store to it (and damn do I love that software now with the new adds). It’s my most consistent Adsense performer. If I knew what I was doing I bet I could make $100/day with that site.

The Blogger spambot has gotten a lot more aggressive in recent months. I had 2 Blogger blogs locked down. They got released later but still don’t show up well in search. I think Blogger gets spammed so much that they shoot first and ask questions later.

  • Vinny Lingo // May 24, 2008 at 5:53 pm

I had a blog get flagged over at blogger a little after Frank was. Of all the sites that could have been flagged, it was a personal site with nothing but photos/vids of the fam and updates on our life. No monetization of any sort. No questionable links. And yet it was flagged.

I’ve never had the spammiest of my sites put under the slightest (detectable) scrutiny. But pictures of my kids? EVIL.

A lot of strange things happen over at Blogger. I put up a blog, posted several times and then I thought I’d see how it looked from the outside. I typed the name into my browser and what should come up but a big orange arrow that said that there was no such blog but that the name is up for grabs if I want to register it. I have no way of getting rid of the arrow. There is no way to get in touch with Google. After being in a funk for a few days, I thought I would try again. I got ANOTHER orange arrow. As soon as I get up the money for XSitePro it’s Aloha to Blogger…

I imagine the head of Google’s PPC department, in a dapper suit drinking martinis, in the basement with their secret search mastermind, who’s wearing a Miskatonic U lab coat (you can still buy these from Pegasus Publishing, and maybe Chaosium, I think) and drinking some evil bubbling laboratory-mixed cocktail.

On the wall are several massive flat screens, side by side, showing a time-elapsed version of all kinds of internet marketers’ site jumping up and down on the index pages.

In front of them is a lap top that shows their advertising profits. It is counted in gigadollars, and looks similar to the “Over XXXX megabites (and counting) of storage” line that you see when you log in to gmail.

They are cackling with evil glee.
