Not Buying Affiliate Rockstar Status

August 14th, 2007 · 14 Comments

I love rock. I’m a fan of Tool. I love Mudvayne. Evans Blue. Breaking Benjamin. I’ve always wished I had the talent to be a rockstar. Well today the powers that brought you Day Job Killer are giving you the chance to be an affiliate rockstar with another smashing ebook on how to get rich with Crapbank.

Affiliate Rockstar Status is yet another ebook that will allow you to “tap into the mind-blowing, cash-spewing secret system that quietly pumped $51,340 into the Clickbank accounts of greedy super affiliates”. Whatever.

See here’s what I don’t get. Day Job Killer came out and suggested that I could make a fat five figure income month after month following the plan. So did Project X. There is so much of this stuff that I can hardly keep up. Anyway, why do I need another report if I am already supposed to be rich from their other reports?

And then there is the whole “super secret” thing. A secret is not supposed to be told. If it’s a “super” secret you really shouldn’t be telling it. At least that’s how it works with my 5 year old. Who among you are going to be selling the secrets of a cash generation system that is going to make you a thousand dollars a day? Seriously. The only people I would be telling are close friends and family. Why would you want everybody using the same idea thereby diluting it? It’s nice that these guys appear so altruistic, but seriously, wouldn’t the “secret system” be worth more than a $77 ebook?

I got rid of dozens of newsletter subscriptions and I still received over half a dozen emails pimping this damn thing. The affiliate riches are not in the content, it’s the content itself. They created these cushy little JV parnerships with these list owners who have thousands of subscribers. You all know how this works now. The guberus tell you how great the ebook is without ever using the product before pimping it, nor do they have any intention of using it in the future. They don’t have the time. More stuff to hype is coming down the pipe. And, oh how this stuff sells.

The freaking sales copy sure looks important. 34 pages of hype if you print it out. 34 pages. What in the real world needs 34 pages to sell you on buying it? You bought a car for 30K without this much bullshit.

Yes, I’m sure there are some real “nuggets” of information in this thing. Yes I’m sure some of you can take the book and make mad cash with it. I just won’t be joining you. Salescopy as annoying and obnoxious as this drivel just turns me off. And it always follows the same recipe:

He’s just like you: Sad case of somebody just like me and you who came on hard times and made it.

Reverse psychiatry: You may not want to be rich. (wait, yes I dooo …..)

Envy: Quit his job and works two hours a day.

Fear: Time is running out to secure your dreams. More and more people are coming online to claim their riches.

And on and on it goes. We see it in all the product pitches.

I’m suggesting you not buy this thing. No, I haven’t bought it so what makes me sure this is not, THE ONE? I don’t. And I don’t care. I refuse to let the salescopy sell me. I’ve bought others just like it and they were all the same. I’m not falling for this shit anymore. Will you? It sells for $197, $127, $77. They are threatening to raise the price. Better hurry.

if you have been in affiliate marketig long enough, then this is not for you guys… for the rest, who want the clear plan to build that list and get sales like crazy, this book is for you guys..

i like this book coz it’s ideas also shared by Eric rockefeller who is one of my all time favourites ;)

    just ma opinion..

dude, if you didnt buy it while it was $77, then i think you should not buy at all..! $197 is too much…

  • Abi // Aug 14, 2007 at 3:27 pm

Thanks Splork - another gem making me realise what a dickhead I’ve been in the past and strengthening my resolve never to fall for this sort of crap again.

I wish all those unfortunates who are going to be seduced by the 34 pages promising internet fame and riches could first read your posts.

I think I’m doing something right, as haven’t had a pitch for the product yet, so seem to be ridding myself of the worst jv pimps.

    Cheers,
    Scotch

You know, it’s easy criticize something. Particularly when you haven’t read it I guess. I’m just tired of all these information products. They all suck. None are worth $77, $97, $127. I’m not sure why the market puts up with this. We all so desperately want to get out of the cube and sit poolside while our Crapbank account fills up with money each day I guess.

I received an offering from Jack Humphrey today in the email. He’s updated his Power Linking course to include Social Linking. I’d sooner buy that course for $169 than any ebook. Why? Well, Jack hasn’t disappointed me yet. You only get one chance to impress me in this business. Ebooks don’t impress me. Maybe someone impressed you with their ebook and you’ll always be a buyer. I haven’t experienced that so I don’t buy them and I do not encourage others to either. I like to point out the ridiculousness in their sales tactics and get people to think about what that salescopy is really saying before buying.

Jack’s SPL course salescopy is only 8 pages long printed out, BTW. I know exactly what I’m getting without all the fluff. He doesn’t have to hard sell.

Am I buying SPL? Not for a while. I’ll have to save up for it.

I wish these marketers would take a run and jump off their own egos. It would be a long way down! ;)

[…] the foundation of the whole thing, I basically agree with the guy over at the blog Lost Ball in High Weeds - if these “secrets” now being revealed are so effective - why reveal them in the first […]

  • John // Aug 15, 2007 at 10:19 am

I agree with everyone. Who actually decides how much an information product is worth? Who died and made all these guberus grand poobahs that can decide exactly what their e-books, course and systems and free bonuses are worth? A good analogy is putting the fox in charge of the hen house.

If you look at the 7 Figure Code salescopy, it is 66 pages printed out. 66 pages of hype! Imagine the local furniture store taking out a 66 page ad in the local newspaper to sell one piece of furniture. It just isn’t going to happen.

If you think about it for a while and if you have some business sense, most off-line marketing techniques translate into a similar strategy for internet marketing. Direct mail becomes E-mail marketing. Finder’s fees becomes affiliate marketing. Business networking becomes joint ventures. Newspaper advertising becomes banner ads. Radio advertising becomes audio clips. Television advertising becomes video clips. Simple to understand. The basic techniques of offline marketing and internet marketing are very similar, it’s just the mechanics that are different. Direct mail pieces have response rates, E-mail marketing has conversion rates. And so on.

What I would like to see is a professional internet marketing association like the American Marketing Association that promotes responsible internet marketing and helps weed out the guberus. All these guys are doing is taking hard earned cash from people that are uninformed, but are lured by the emotional hype of working from home, spending more time with family, etc.

Face it, consumers generally make purchase decisions based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem and self-actualization. The internet guberus market to the self-actualization and esteem needs by tapping into the prospect’s desire for self-fulfillment and achievement. You are not going to buy their e-book because you are thirsty or hungry, but because you have a strong desire to achieve wealth and success. I think the length of the sales copy may have an inverse relationship to the content of the information product. The longer the sales copy, the less “meat” in the product.

I have been researching and studying Internet Marketing probably for about 3+ years without jumping into the fray as I am more cautious and conservative. I have come across some very good resources that are more upscale than the Internet guberus and provide very good content without the hype. At least one site provides case studies in internet marketing techniques much mini Harvard Business School cases, with a lot of meat and absolutely no hype. Very good traditional marketing strategies adapted for the internet.

We also need a very good website resource that buys all of these guberu products, reviews and exposes them.

It’s good if we can help each other avoid falling into the guberu traps. The Affiliate Rock Star promotion reminds me of all those other “super secret”, “this is the next best thing since sliced bread” internet marketing product launches.

I keep getting reminded of this phrase I’ve heard before: “Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.” Seems like the internet marketing guberus and community operate like a Borg collective or hive mind.

Personally, I have a lot more respect for the people that are doing internet marketing by selling hard goods over the Internet. I think when most people go to buy something on-line, they are probably going to purchase some type of hard good versus an information product. It would be interesting to see some statistics in that regard.

great analysis & review of more HYPE by the already rich jerks getting richer by hyping the rehash.

    THANKS!

  • Alexander Deprez // Aug 16, 2007 at 2:15 am

there is only one ebook that was worth it. The rich jerk program. The reason i love it is because it has a tutorial in it in how to write salesletters. Once you know how to write them, you know how to recognise them. Lets take a look at the rockstar affiliate status blablabal. It costs 77 $, but it will raise. Bullshit, the price will stay at 77$. They only say that because you will feel pressure of buying now. Like the blogowner said. they use reverse psycholigy to. You shouldn’t buy the rich jerk if you want to become rich. I bought it, and the techniques that are in it work very well, but they can be found in many books (at the library) about online marketing.

Actually got the report via friend. Yea I know, but I knew it was crap. How ironic? I actually read this on the laptop, while taking one.

One of the worst mornings I had in awhile…
One of the most painful movements I have given..
Definitely another “rockstar” P.O.S. put out by the same dudes who scan forums and steal posts, spin them and VOILA….Bestseller…

This is just another reason why I try to provide as much information as possible and just sell tactics and software.

Glad to be back here Splork. Myspace put the Fox Media buttheads on me and Joe Tierney’s case and unfortunately had to stop teaching people how to market there.

Back now though, and looking forward to more of your writing.

    Best,
    Ruck

  • Splork // Aug 17, 2007 at 6:42 am

Hey Ruck. I was wondering where you were hiding. I always enjoyed cruising by your site and seeing what the hell you were up to. I figured you weren’t far from the game but at least now you’re back where we can see you.

  • Alex // Aug 17, 2007 at 7:46 am

I love it when they all call these course ‘Power’

    ‘Power Linking Course’

    ‘Power Trading Trading Course’

    ‘Power Real Estate Course’

    ‘Power Affiliate Course’

    ‘Power Profits Course’

    hahahahaha

  • Franck Silvestre // Aug 25, 2007 at 2:44 am

Yup, don’t know why they keep selling those affiliate ebook month after month.

There is no secrets at all. Hard work, Seo, PPC, good content, reviews, JV,etc … Everything is unveiled already.

The good stuff are well known.

  • Brad // Aug 31, 2007 at 5:11 am

Hey! Tool and Breaking Benjamin are my 2 favorites right now. Cool. I didn’t think for 1 second about buying ‘rockstar’. I hope I am becoming immune to these sales pages because they are all starting to sound like crap to me! And the name? Affiliate Rockstar ? how cheezy
