5 Things I Ponder

December 19th, 2009 · 14 Comments

Just some opinions. Mileage variables are set.

First. Adsense is the worst it’s been for me in 4 years. It usually drops off at the end of the year but it is really sucking ass. Perhaps I just suck at the game. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. Perhaps I am not creating good content and/or websites to take advantage of the click goodness. Perhaps it’s some other variable I can’t see. Dunno really. I’ll be more worried if it doesn’t recover in January. But for now it sucks. And maybe I’d just assume not provide Google any revenue opportunities anyway. There are a lot of opportunities to make money outside of Adsense.

Second. The guberus are destroying my spam account. I went through my email and unsubscribed to numerous douche-canoes. I thought I had already gotten rid of many but they came back like a bad rash. I had almost forgotten how stupid, embarrassing and ridiculous this time of year is with all these freakin’ offers. Some pimp a different offer every day. Who are you people that are buying shit from these asshats? None of these offers work. None. Nada, Zilch. Stop buying all this crap and make these dicks work for their money instead of simply emailing you for money.

Third. I said disparaging things about Ebay’s affiliate program a while back. Ebay got pissed and barfed all over my earnings. I stopped trying to make money with the service. But we made up. Ebay realized I was sending traffic over. And even forgave my shitty websites. In turn people have been buying all kinds of stupid things. It’s a win-win. Our relationship has never been better.

Fourth. Amazon has the best affiliate program around. It is just too bad they pay so poorly. It’s almost not worth the effort.

Fifth. I don’t understand why blog owners are so stiff over comments with links. If someone (like me) takes the time to write a valid comment, on topic, with content that would even help in the search engines, and I decide to add my URL for my time, then what’s the problem? This is particularly tiresome from the snobs on Hubpages.

A little holiday “airing of grievances” I see.

I’m actually having one of my better months for both Adsense and EPN.

I do need to diversify more though. Maybe I should go the “guberu” route and spam the crap out of a “list”.

    Interesting, no?
This blog is, and has always been, my journal. My thoughts. Ideas. Stuff I think about. It lets me air my shit out. Gives me time to think.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come up with an idea during a rant. It’s therapeutic.

If you have a list may as well make use of it. Seems to be what all the big kids are doing. They wouldn’t keep doing it if they weren’t banking fat rolls.

Christmas is supposed to be a slow time for internet marketing. Obviously the gurus are making every effort to overcome this – my own e-mail box is crammed. They all seem to merge in to one big must-have, change your life right now magic button for me.

On the subject of Amazon, if you can make money with Adsense and eBay then Amazon should be easy for you – especially this time of year. UAW + AMA with your own blog/website works really well.

Apart from the fact that it makes me money, I much prefer Amazon to Adsense & Clickbank. At least I can say that I am selling things that people really want (even if they don’t really need them) rather than IM pipedreams and rehashed e-books.

Anyway, compliments of the season to you and your readers.

Thanks for the well wishes for the season Hamish. You’re right about Amazon. I just wish they paid a little better. But I’m with you, I absolutely prefer Amazon to Adsense and Clickbank.

I am also doing very well with Adsense. No drop off what so ever for me.

Writing is therapeutic for me as well, I have come up with some real doozies in the midst of a writing rampage.

    Have a Merry Christmas

With you on Amazon. It is soul destroying to see I have already sold 39 things this week and my commission – $84…

Maybe I should sell higher priced goods :)

Adsense and EPN is going strong though.

Funny how some plugin (or what) makes links from A M A Z O N taht point to AMA. Never mind.
IMO, Amazon really is the best affiliate program I found.
I have 80+ online stores that really make money. At the beginning you only have 4% commission – probably this is the reason why all bloggers say it is not worth the effort – but you´ll move to much better numbers if you sell something. Say, you sell 105 products a day in average (a lot, I know, but definitely possible) you can do the math: 40 USD average price and 8,5% commission = 357 USD/day. Not bad, is it?
I know you have some celeb blogs with like 200k monthly visitors. I have no idea how blogs do convert, amazons (my experience) conversion rate is 10-15% so if you manage 5% of your visitors click, you can have like 1000 -1500 products sold at the end of month. Often these will be products that you do not sell directly, you´ll wonder, Amazon does all the up-sell, cross-sell offers to convince the customer and they are successfull like hell in this, you just need to get people there.

I agree See You Guys. Like everything else in our model, you simply have to build tons of sites. I’ve got to adjust the plugin not to grab every single instance of AMA. I do heartily recommend the service.

Adsense is pretty bad for me too now. ..if it makes you feel any better, but at least you know you have a fan here and are in good company :)

Everything you said up there rings true but for the 1st time I think (always agreed with your points) I have serious doubts about your statement concerning eBay; is it really that great?

No, I haven’t joined them cos they never allowed me in…but all I’ve heard about them was what conniving scammers they are (from most of their “partners”).

  • Splork // Dec 21, 2009 at 7:06 pm

Yea man. eBay does me just fine.
Just like Adsense works out for many people and sucks for me, I have managed to do OK with eBay when others struggle. I have no idea why it works out that way in the racket.

AdSense, Amazon, EPN, ClickBank, blah blah blah. Whatever it’s name, it’s still chump change. At the end of the day what these things are best for is research so you can discover an opportunity to create your own [valuable, useful] product and collect ALL of the money.

  • Splork // Dec 27, 2009 at 11:42 pm

    Easier said than done.

hey splork, its okay if i get a link from a comment on ur blog right?? lol.

about the amazon affiliate program, yeah i set up 5 sites targeting long tails for amazon products and they all get really good traffic and a TON of clicks…the conversion rate is terrible tho. gotta switch now-too close for missles, switching to guns (aka-adsense).
